Yay! Free Speech!

Thank you TBP! Now I can say whatever is on my mind! This baywords thing sure is nifty! OK, enough with the small talk, onto business:

TPB are assholes. It’s been clearly demonstrated that they’re not criminals, and they’re not in breach of any relevant laws. It is pretty clear however that they are providing a service with a primary objective to undermine copyright law. They’re using a loophole in the law to do so. That loophole is there to help protect people and organisations with good intentions from wrongful prosecution, but their abuse could well end that loophole.

If they truly want to change copyright law, they could start by making themselves respectable. As it stands, they’re little more than leaches sucking advertising revenue out of huge amounts of illegal activity. The only way they can garner any sympathy for themselves is to deliberately confuse copyright with censorship. The comparison is a ridiculous hyperbole of current laws, which many would argue are a ridiculous hyperbole in themselves. What exactly are they fighting for? Are they fighting for their right to express themselves by pressing play on their iPods?

That’s it. That’s their one and only justification. Mix a little FUD, a little smoke and mirrors, a lot of underdog, and you have a reality distortion field that would make Steve Jobs weep. Tackling the complex issue of copyright would spoil the effect. Practical solutions doubly so.

I needed to get that off my chest. Thanks TPB! I hope you guys rot in hell!

Hey, I don’t suppose you think it’s a bit hypocritical to say this on a blog run by TPB? Probably not, I suppose in a way it’s effective.

I came here in response to your comment on the post announcing Baywords opening, you said it was censored by TPB sicne you only get a blank screen after login, this happened to lots of people, including me, (possibly everyone) as you can see from reading the comments now, so it wasn’t censorship. Though I can see how you came to that conclusion from seeing what you’re blogging about :P

Legal!=right. illegal!=wrong. When the copyright laws were screwed over by a bought congress, the Pirate Bay’s need for justification went away in a puff of graft-flavored smoke.

Well, at least we get the benefit of their efforts.

Maybe they can use the cash from ads to fight the RIAA/MPAA and win power for the rest of us…
